Fan Culture and Educational Engagement

Fandoms tend to be relegated to extracurricular activities when it comes to school. I remember in high school all the different types of music clubs there were. However that was just it, they were only clubs. These groups were formed by people who felt very passionate about a particular genre of music and the only time during school when they could engage with that passion was after it. There was never really any time given to them to discuss or share that interest during classes, which I feel is a bit of a loss. Allowing people to bring what they’re passionate about into an educational setting is a great way to keep them interested in their education as well as engaging with the their education on a deeper level. By allowing people to bring their interests with them into the classroom, we can have a more effective educational environment that fosters genuine interest in the students.
