There are so many people, companies, devices and media that influence my literacy; however, I condensed them down to eight for this blog post. Sponsors of literacy are any person or thing that increases literacy levels or heavily influences what types of literacy a person utilizes on a daily basis.
Out of all of the sponsors of literacy in my life, my parents seem to have had the greatest influence on my literacy skills. For example, my parents taught me basic reading skills and paid for me to attend a private middle school (Stanley Clark School) that focused on reading tests, foreign languages–more specifically, my French class taught by Mrs. Cook– and computer skills. My parents also bought my first cell phone, a Samsung, which gave me access to become literate in social media.
In relation to my parents providing me with more than adequate resources and education, my schooling pushed me to be apart of the International Baccalaureate Program at my high school. The IB Program is an advanced educational program centered around critical thinking and engagement with all forms of text.
My job at Sylvan Learning center also advanced my literacy skills as I tutored younger students and learned how to use scheduling software (i.e. Excel).
Nonetheless, there are so many varying factors and sponsors that can influence a person’s access to literacy.

I can relate that I too have many sponsors within my life that keep on encouraging me to complete my higher education learning, I honestly think that I am taking all of these people for granted because I never stop and think about those who really have influenced me.
For example, one of my most recent sponsors would have to be my wrd 102 professor Eric Plattner. He is most likely the most influential Engish instructor I have ever had, in fact, he is the reason why I even took this class in the first place. What he had done was totally change the way I read and analyze text, by constantly writing down questions that I have and ideas that pop up as I go along with the reading. I would then transfer whatever those ideas I came up with from that piece onto a whole new creative form of writing.
This is just one sponsor of dozens.
