In WRD 103, my professor assigned the entire class to subscribe and read the New York Times newspaper, every Sunday.  It was actually the first time I have ever picked up an actual newspaper and read it and to be honest I kind of enjoyed it. This was a totally different experience of getting the news, at home I would usually do homework or do some chores while CNN was on. I would be passively tuning in and out as the commentator would be speaking about what bad things are happening today or what outrageous out burst or action pres. Trump just did.

But when reading a reliable news paper, such as this one, I feel as though I’m getting the actual news. I know it sounds weird but it kind of makes sense. The New York Times was just giving me facts on what happened and how it happened, unlike CNN where the anchor would argue with their guest. Or they purposely set up two people who are on opposite sides of the political party and just argue to the point where they are just talking over one another and ultimately they leave the conversation the same way they came in. On many levels, CNN and many other news stations are just alternative forms of entertainment. Now I’m not totally discrediting CNN or any other news source (besides Fox) because there are some good, informative segments. I am also not just valorizing the New York Times of being the greatest news source of all time because they too have issues of being one sided.

In all what the New York Times has showed me, it’s important to explore all of my new source options because some sources are better than others in particular areas.
