Fortnite Literacy

From 10 year olds to undergrad students that have more work than they can handle at the end of a semester, Fortnite has become one of the most popular games for all ages. As a barely known studio making its first attempt at a new game, it quickly topped the charts within no time. What is fascinating about it is that it defined an entirely new genre that required one to learn the structure of how it is played. While some took to watching others play it online to learn, what seemed to be the most effective way of learning was to jump right into it and experiment with its gameplay.

When computers first came around, the people that were most effective with the new literacy were the ones that took chances messing around with it rather than reading instruction manuals and watching others. In relation to Fortnite, the people that got the best at the game didn’t watch others or spend time searching for online guides. The didn’t fear the new medium of game, but rather they took in head on and immersed themselves in the new environment. When a new literacy or learning opportunity comes around, it has been proven that the most success comes to those that have no fear of initial failure to eventually rise to the top.
