Spongebob was an integral part of my childhood. Whether it be reciting the entire Spongebob movie with my brother while driving to Pennsylvania or watching multiple seasons in one night at a sleepover, I never realized how influenced my social activity was by it. One of the most popular phrases that we would say was, “But what if (Character) did it like this”? We were rewriting our own fiction and didn’t know it. Parents did not like watching with us because we wouldn’t shut up about trying to come up with as many scenarios as we could. Even if I was alone in my Spongebob pajama bottoms and spongebob comforter, I would think to myself about all the different ways the episode could turn out even though I had seen the same one 20+ times.
Last month, I tried to enjoy the newest season; however, I couldn’t relate to it. There were no more Sea Cucumber jokes or sexual innuendos, and Spongebob was as politically correct as saying ” happy holidays” rather than the holiday one celebrates. Older spongebob used to be able to be enjoyed by most ages, especially when inappropriate jokes were hidden for parents. But now spongebob is for spoiled, brain dead toddlers that are destined to have no sense of humor.

I can honestly agree with you about the new Spongebob. I cannot seem to catch on to it. I really enjoyed the old Spongebob, but on another note, we were really creating our own fiction because i can see me and my brothers doing the same. That’s something that i can relate to. Great blog post.
