During today’s (2/14/18) group discussions I class, I brought up how Teen Vogue has moved beyond simple celebrity gossip and fashion tips. While those topics are still addressed by the magazine, looking at their website home page showed an article about child labor in the chocolate industry and an interview with Hillary Clinton mixed in with the Olympics and mascara-application tips. It was bizarre and amazing. I decided to read up a little bit about why this change might have come about.

According to an article that I found on “The Atlantic” titled “Teen Vogue’s Political Coverage Isn’t Surprising” by Sophie Gilbert, there is a reason why the magazine is getting involved in political ideas. The reason is that teens now have access to and are as interested in the news as their parents. This is caused by new technology and Teen Vogue is simply following the trend. I believe this is fantastic evidence to show that culture and technology heavily impact media.
