What I found really interesting about the short essay from Denis Schmandt-Besserat, is that the writing system that we know and use every day came from commerce. I find this the most ironic idea that I have ever come across because I really don’t enjoy the field of business. More specifically I don’t have any desire to have a career as a sales associate. I would hate trying to get people to buy shit that they don’t need. When I think about this I feel as though greed is what drives a person to sell more. For an example, in the movie Wolf on Wall Street, directed by Martin Scorsese, Jordan Belfort kept on manipulating people in order to satisfy his lustful greed to have more money. Another person who exposes this disease is the rapper Jermaine Cole, a.k.a  J. Cole. Just watch 2 minutes of his interview, when the red bar is at 34 minutes and 30 seconds, and you’ll see exactly what I mean. These are the reasons why I hate business, but I do love to write.

Reading and writing are one of the best things I have ever learned because it allows me to explore new things literally every day. It’s the first step of satisfying my curiosity of the unknown. Additionally, the absolute best part of writing is that I am able to convey my ideas and express what I feel when diving deeper into a subject. Of course, I can do this while simply just having a conversation with another person, but with writing, I am able to record every exact word that comes to my mind.

So when you tell me one of the most unsatisfying fields of study, in my opinion, was the very reason why my most beloved subject was fabricated…this ignites some mix emotions.
