Before I came to this class, I had no idea how unconsciously aware I was to how much of a role literacy played in our day to day lives. What really sparked my awakening was when we had a class discussion on how those who are in power are able to constrain and manipulate a person’s will to live just by using literacy. Again in a way, I always knew about this, for an example how Hitler used propaganda to advance his Nazi campaign, but I never really thought about it deeply. So I decide to go on youtube and learn as much as I could from this topic, and what I found was incredibly interesting. From my most favorite channel, called Wisecrack, similarly covered this topic when discussing one of the best tv shows to date, Archer.

In this video, they explained how Archer is constantly able to take control of conversations, he does this in multiple ways such as interrupting one’s thought or idea by saying “phrasing”.  He does this whenever that person says something that sounds carnal but they really mean something else. For an example SNL’s: NPR’s Delicious Dish Schweeddy Balls. The Wisecrack team describes this as Archer is, “essentially choosing to miscommunicate, and willfully misinterpreting the speaker’s words, thus derailing the conversation…Archer often ensures the that the person won’t be heard at all”(Wisecrack).

In the end, I love how this class is able to not only tie in with my most favorite youtube channel but also with one of my most favorite tv shows.
